James Peck talks farming

“The future of farming is twofold for me: it’s about supporting and working together through the challenging times and celebrating the good times, and it’s also about combining scale for efficiencies of economies and specialism to build value.

We've decided as a business that we want to focus on growing crops. Producing food, that is our role in society. We do a lot of environmental work and regenerative agriculture. We need to find the right balance.”

Car Crash Chaos, New Crawler Debate and Drilling Preparations

In today’s video, James gives us a closer look at our trusty Horsch Joker, highlighting its key features and performance on the farm. Glynn, still impressed by the Fendt 1167, teams up with Sandy to make a strong case for investing in a new Crawler, citing the significant improvements in power and fuel efficiency. But will James be convinced? With hedge cutting season upon us, we kick off the trimming in collaboration with our contractors, ensuring the hedges remain a safe haven for nesting birds. Meanwhile, a mishap with UK Power Networks leaves us with a dangerous pole base in the ground, posing a risk to our operations. James takes on some repairs to get our weather station back online, crucial for monitoring conditions as we head into the busy season. There’s no shortage of surprises this week! One of our staff members gets recognized at a nightclub thanks to our YouTube presence, and Pete the gardener files a formal complaint, urgently requesting a new green wheelbarrow to match his style! Plus, our Hilux gets tangled up with some baling twine, leading to an unexpected repair job. We’re also preparing for the upcoming drilling season, ensuring all tools, including the seed trailer, are ready to roll. But it's not all smooth sailing—a car crashes into our subsoiler on the road, tearing a massive hole through the vehicle. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but it’s a stark reminder of the dangers we face in farming. Join us for a jam-packed episode full of farm life, equipment debates, unexpected challenges, and the ever-entertaining behind-the-scenes moments that keep us going! James Goes Shopping & Fendt 1167 Test Drive! New Gear, Equipment Woes & Harvest Students Farewell

Glynn, our dedicated ploughman, finally gets behind the wheel of the Fendt 1167 and instantly falls in love with its performance! Meanwhile, James has been on a shopping spree, adding a new Horsch Terrano to our lineup to help us catch up with the cultivations and get ready for the next big push. It's also a bittersweet moment on the farm as we say goodbye to our harvest students, who are off on their next adventures. But the work doesn't stop! With our Fendt crawlers finally fixed, new problems have cropped up with the Fendt tractors, and with parts stuck in France, it's becoming a major headache. The Mercedes Unimog remains down with an ECU fault, adding to the ongoing equipment challenges. Sandy steps in on Glynn’s Challenger to help with mole draining, but the tight land is causing heavy wear and tear, forcing us to replace parts more frequently than planned. The good news? Work is progressing on our new barn to house all the machinery while the weather holds up, and we’ve started processing and bagging our farm-safe seed in preparation for the imminent drilling campaign. Join us for a jam-packed episode of P.X Farms, filled with demos, breakdowns, and a relentless pursuit to keep everything moving forward! As always James will answer some of your questions at the end of the video. Broken Down Challengers, Backlogged Beans & Cultivation Rush

We’re tackling a series of challenges and gearing up for the next big push! We start by demoing the powerful Fendt 1167 Vario MT, which arrives just in time as one of our Challengers breaks down yet again. It’s a race against the clock to keep our equipment running smoothly as we fight to stay on track with cultivations. The Unimog is also giving us headaches with a flat battery and a host of electrical faults, so we set to work on recharging it to get everything back up and running. Meanwhile, with the bank holiday causing port closures, we’ve got a backlog of beans piling up in the yard, adding to the pressure. We also face a new logistical challenge as our hired Vaderstaad press needs to be returned, but it’s too tall for the low loader. With the clock ticking, we’re behind on cultivations and pushing hard to catch up so we can get next year’s crop drilled in time. And as we wrap up the harvest season, it’s time to clean down the combines and tuck them away for the winter. Harvest 2024 is Complete!

The 2024 harvest is officially in the books! After 44 intense days, we've successfully combined over 12,000 acres of crops across our farms. This season has been a monumental effort from across the business. In total we have transported over 27,000 tonnes of crops off the fields. This year marked the debut of our new combines, which performed exceptionally well. But as one chapter closes, another begins. With the harvest behind us, it's time to start planning for next year's crops and get back into the fields for cultivation. Drone shots from the incredible @Tractorspotter In this video, we'll reflect on the highs and lows of this harvest season, discuss what crops we should drill for next year, and dive straight into the next phase of farm work. Join us for a look back at our achievements and a glimpse into what's coming next at P.X Farms! Harvest Push Continues: Combining Available, Fixing the Chaser Bin & Powerline Tech Trial!

The harvest season is in full swing, but there’s still plenty of work to be done. We start the day by heading to the dealer to pick up crucial parts to fix our chaser bin, ensuring that our operation keeps running smoothly. Whilst at the dealer we see our neighbour who was famously a direct driller however that seems to be a distant memory. After a close call with the combine and some powerlines, we take safety to the next level by trialing new technology designed to detect powerlines before they become a hazard. This innovation could be a game-changer for farming safety, and we’re excited to see how it performs in the field. Meanwhile, we continue to push hard with the pea harvest, with hopes of wrapping up the season very soon. Every pass brings us closer to the finish line, and we’re determined to make the most of the remaining days. We offer our combining services to fellow farmers who still has some wheat left to combine. This way we can clean our combines out before they head into their winter storage. Fendt Still Down with No Parts in Europe & Racing Against the Weather

We kick off the mustard harvest in Cambridge with two of our combines while the other two are in Lincolnshire, racing against the clock to finish combining the later-drilled wheat and oats before the weather turns. With the pressure on, our team is determined to get the job done in Lincolnshire so they can head to Bedford to complete the wheat harvest there. We're excited to welcome Claas, who have brought their new Axion 960 TerraTrac tractor for a demo. This comes at the perfect time, as our Fendt crawler is still out of action due to a misplaced steering pump. The Axion 960 steps in to help us keep things moving smoothly. In addition to the harvesting frenzy, we begin the mapping and cultivation of 300 acres of new land that we are now contracting. It's a significant expansion that requires precision and careful planning, and we're excited to share this new venture with you. We also have a special visit from Franek from Wherry and Sons, who checks in on the peas we've grown under contract. These peas are destined for export around the world, showcasing the global reach of our farming efforts. It is also the last chance to submit your application to join David and his team out in Australia: https://forms.gle/YtJyVnrNJjU6oeqJ9 Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at the challenges, innovations, and teamwork that keep P.X Farms running strong. New Record! 270 Hectares Combined in a Day, Tackling Rye Grass & Tractor Troubles

We set a new farm record by combining over 270 hectares in a single day! This achievement is a testament to our team's hard work and the efficiency of our equipment. However, the day isn't without its challenges. A puncture on one of our tractors renders it useless while we wait for the repair. Despite this setback, our spirits remain high as we continue to push forward with the combining in Lincolnshire. We're joined by David from Western Australia, who shares his insights on tackling the rye grass problem—a challenge his region has faced for years. His expertise provides valuable strategies that could help us manage this issue effectively. Join David and his team: https://forms.gle/YtJyVnrNJjU6oeqJ9 The day ends on a high note as the Fendt Crawler is finally back up and running, ready to continue its vital cultivation work. In-Cab Ploughing, Aussie Farming Insights & Fire Safety Tests

First, we hop into the cab with Glynn to get a detailed look at the ins and outs of ploughing, offering insights into this essential farming process. Despite our best efforts, the crops remain unfit, which means no combining for now. We're excited to welcome David Cox, an Australian farmer managing over 60,000 acres back home, who shares his expertise and perspectives on large-scale farming. To ensure our farm is prepared for anything, we test out the latest fire sticks supplied by Spladings by starting a controlled fire in the yard. Safety is always our priority, and we show how these tools can help protect our crops and equipment. Finally, we get hands-on in the grain store, fixing the conveyor belt to clear the backlog of wheat that's been piling up in the yard.
